Joseph Hobson Jagger was a Yorkshireman and his unique idea for beating the roulette wheels in the casino in Monte Carlo came from his experience of working in the industrialised mills of Bradford. I’ve spoken about him many times at events in the county and its always a pleasure when Yorkshire people know of him. I’m very proud of my ancestor. So I was delighted when the Friends of Brighouse Station approached me wanting to recognise Joseph as one of Yorkshire’s famous figures. Despite lockdown delays the plan progressed and now passengers passing through Brighouse can read something of his story and discover that the real ‘Man who broke the Bank at Monte Carlo’ came from Bradford!
